Andrew Lee McConnell
3D Concept Designer
-
With nearly 2 decades of professional design experience, including graphic and architectural design, I have dedicated more than the last 10 years to my work as a Set Designer and 3D Concept Designer. I’ve had the opportunity to work on numerous big-budget Hollywood motions pictures and streaming series, for studios such as Paramount, Netflix and Disney, where I’ve had the privilege of creating and developing complex sets that have featured prominently in these movies and shows.
TRON, Star Trek, Sonic the Hedgehog, The Last of Us and Percy Jackson and the Olympians are some of the projects I’ve been a part of and, working with the Production Designer and the rest of the Art Department, have helped shape the look and feel of the sets, props, vehicles, environments and worlds we’ve created.
I love the chance to work on a wide variety of styles and aesthetics, including fantasy and designs that are more grounded in reality, but my biggest passion is science fiction design. I’ve been lucky to work primarily on numerous sci-fi projects where I feel the most inspired to design unique creations that no one has seen before.

I was introduced to 3D modelling software in my teenage years and it was during my Master of Architecture degree at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada when I immersed myself in the world of 3D design. I quickly resonated with this medium, which I feel has very much helped unlock my potential as a designer; 3D modelling grants me the freedom to explore the concepts in my mind, allowing me to effectively experiment, iterate and refine, a process I dedicate myself to until I have crafted something I am satisfied with.
Designing in 3D allows me to develop highly refined designs that contribute to and enhance the visions of Production Designers, Art Directors and clients. My technical specialties include hard surface modelling, SubD modelling and producing complex CNC and 3D printing fabrication files.
I’ve become proficient in a variety of software that helps me realize my creative pursuits:
· Polygon Modelling: Autodesk Maya, Blender
· CAD & NURBS Modelling: Plasticity, Rhinoceros
· Rendering and Visualization: Unreal Engine, Twinmotion
· Sculpting: Nomad Sculpt
